Star Image

  • Dyer believes that star images are constructed on the bases of targeting a certain audience and making profit, not on the real representation of who the artist is.
  • The Internet, Schoolboy Q, Mac Miller, Chance the Rapper, Gold link are artists that are similar to our artist Yung Frank. They are mostly R&B and rap/hip hop artist with similar anti-authoritarian personalities. This is depicted through their Music Video, digipaks, website and their overall star image
  • Yung Frank connoted rebellious behaviour, conspicuous consumption and youth culture (key star image meaning)
  • The Music Video 'Glowed Up' implies these keys meanings through the party scene, low angle shot (making him look intimidating), the prop (alcohol bottles). The echo effect and slow motion effect communicating an altered, drug induced state. Also the purple, pink lighting as well as the costume. 
  • The digipak "Lines" connotes these key meaning through the artists smoking and using explicit hand signs on the front cover, the purple symbolism rap and the parental advisory sign
  • On Yung Franks website shows him smoking and swearing. The purple colour scheme, the photo gallery conveying his intimidating essence, the font is typical of rap website.

Audience

  • The target audience of Yung Frank are people aged between 16-26. Due the explicit nature of the artists it is inappropriate to target young children and older adults may find the lyrics insulting and derogatory. 
  • Music video digipak, and the website communicate to this audience segment, through the use of parental explicit sign show the aggressive nature of the music. Yung frank appeals to his audience through partying, drinking, experimenting with drugs and living in a carefree manner which are all attributes to youth culture

Cross Promotion

  • There is synergy between yung franks three product through the motif of colour and lighting scheme that links them together. Purple
  • Through the use of purple throughout all three product it linked to the genre of rap due by using Purple. Through the use of purple through out all three products is linked to the genre of rap due to the excessive abuse of the drug Lean aka dirty spire which is a purple mixture that is common within the Hip Hop genre used by rappers like Lil Wayne, Asap Rocky and Lil yauty 
  • The three product promote the services that the record label are selling through using direct address within the music video so that the audience associates Yung Frank on the website so they gain facial recognition 
  • The promotional campaign attempt to construct branding for Yung Frank through using typeface of Yung Frank's name on the digipak the record label create a brand which audience the familiarise and connects the audience to the Yung Frank artist. Rap artist who have done this before include the A$AP mob through replacing the S with a doller sign which makes them unique.
