Music Video Idea #2

Music Video

Song: Sh-Boom- The Chords

The Chords were a Doo-Wop group formed in the 50’s. They were a one hit wonder with “Sh-Boom”. Other artist like them were The Crew-Cuts and The Clovers.

This idea is based around an barbershop quartet/group. This idea is performance based. The act are performing and singing to the camera. The location of this sequence could be shot in the studio. The cast would be 4 or 5 guys wearing matching suits who would be acting as the artists. In addition to this where would be a 7 piece band- a drum kit, upright bass, electric guitar. In addition to this there would also be a male and female dancer, dressed up as well.

The barbershop quartet are lip syncing the song for a bit. The camera then shows the band and their instruments. In addition to the singing group and band, there also could be a couple dancing along to which could be edited into the sequence when the instrumental is happening and then once the the voices come back in pans back around to the quartet.

The video fits into the specific track because the performance of the actual song is sung by a vocal group which who will also be performing the song. The star image of this group was they were very pure, clean cut and dressed up. They sang about love and lust and their used their talent to gain fame. To portray this to the audience we will also have the characters costume similar to theirs as well as have them perform the way the group used too.

Music Video Idea #1

Song: New Person, Same Old Mistakes

Tame Impala’s is an Indie Rock band who’s often associated with the new psychedelic rock movement. Other artist similar to them are Temples, MGMT, Mac Demaco. They are an organic act according to Negus’ ideology, they were formed by the lead singer and songwriter Kevin Parker.

This idea follows a story of a boy. It would follow his character through a half narrative, half performance based music video. The narrative section of this would be based in his bedroom, the design of the this bedroom would be very plain. It would have a single bed, a desk, a guitar or musical instrument of sorts, a notebook and a pen. The boy is sitting at the desk in front of him on the black page of a notebook there could be an animation of a girl.

My idea for this drawing would be something that looks like this:

but more in the drawing style of this:

The video itself would be very melancholy juxtaposed with expressive colours which would be shown in the next scene. A bit before the chorus comes in he gets up and walks up to a different set which is a band set where his band is already playing. When the chorus comes, he then starts singing into microphone the lyrics. And there are slow flashing multicolour lights around them.

It then could cut back and forth from these scenes.

The star image of Tame Impala is based around creativity, song writing and talent. In addition to this, becuase their music fits under the Psychedelic genre, their image is also psychedelic. To portray the creativity and talent in our music video, we show that they are playing their instruments and they are able to perform. To show psychedelia we will use slow moving tracking shots and flashing LED lights.

Campaign

I created a demo website to show what kind of aesthetic and feel the digipak and website would have. For the first campaign, I kept with the Psychedelic theme with the background.

The digipack would keep exaclty the same kind of look. On the front and back cover of the digipack the swirling, bright colours that would be consistent all the way around the cover. For this particular design I would have pictures of the band maybe on the inside of the sleeve because a band that sells this kind of music would usually be an organic band. This means they usually would be relying on their looks or physical features to sell records.
